A statement regarding the importance of prayer for achieving peace has been made for Memorial Day in the year 2023

We show our respect and gratitude on Memorial Day to the cherished daughters and sons of America who gave their lives for this country. Even though we can never fully compensate for what they sacrificed, we make a promise to ourselves to pursue the same cause they did, and we renew our commitment to assisting the families, care providers, and individuals who were

left behind.
Throughout many generations, dating back to the establishment of our nation, these bold individuals heeded the call of duty, ready to lay down their lives for the values that hold great significance to all of us. Their battles paved the way for our freedom and ability to govern ourselves. They gave up much in order for us to live freely. To this day, as they rest in perpetual peace, we honor them by continuing to uphold the flame of liberation they valiantly kept burning throughout the world. Every year on this day, there is an amalgamation of sorrow and pride. We acknowledge the suffering of those who are grieving the loss of a loved one who served in the military, including families of fallen soldiers who have been awarded the Gold Star. We understand that on this particular day, the ache of their absence might be unbearable. However, for many of you, this sorrow is cushioned by the understanding that your loved one was a part of something greater than all of us. They chose a life of noble purpose, and they took on risks and challenges to protect an unparalleled ideal - the United States of America. These courageous military personnel are not just an integral part but also the fundamental support of our nation. We commemorate their service and selfless sacrifice for our country every single day and vow to take care of their loved ones. As we take a moment of silence to remember them, we promise to keep protecting democracy and freedom in their memory. May our fallen heroes rest in peace, and may the ones currently serving stay safe under God's protection. The U.S. Congress, through a joint resolution passed on May 11, 1950 with amendments (36 U.S.C. 116) has asked the President to issue a proclamation urging American citizens to commemorate Memorial Day as a day of prayer for lasting peace. This proclamation also designates a specific time on that day for people to come together and reflect through prayer. Furthermore, the Congress has enacted Public Law 106-579 which designates 3:00 p.m. local time on Memorial Day as the National Moment of Remembrance, to be observed by all Americans in their own way. The President of the United States, Joseph R. Biden Jr., declares May 29, 2023, as Memorial Day, a day dedicated to the prayer for everlasting peace. At 11 am local time on that day, people are encouraged to come together and pray. The president requests the media to participate in this event. Additionally, the National Moment of Remembrance is to be observed by all Americans at 3:00 pm local time on Memorial Day. I am asking the leaders of the United States and its associated territories to direct that the flag be displayed at half-staff until noon on Memorial Day on all government buildings, naval vessels, and grounds within their jurisdiction. Additionally, I urge individuals to honor fallen service members by posting tributes on the Veterans Legacy Memorial website. Finally, I ask that all Americans display the flag at half-staff in front of their homes for the customary forenoon period. This is to certify that I, on the twenty-sixth day of May, in the year two thousand twenty-three, have signed this document and acknowledge the two hundred and forty-seventh anniversary of the United States of America's Independence
